Daytona Shootout Series Review

Congratulations to Brian Bennet taking the Nuff World Shootout Series win at Daytona.

12 racers came out to kick off the first race of the 2012 Shootout Seroes at Daytona. We had 60 hard fought laps with 5 cautions for a total of 20 caution laps. There were 9 lead changes among 6 drivers with Brian Bennett leading the most laps with 20 laps led. Daniel Gutierrez took the pole with a time of 49.992.

The race kicked off hot and heavy as everyone started scrambling on the green flag to find themselves a drafting partner for the big event. By lap 3 everyone had gotten to the inside line and were beginning to form a long snake to settle in for this one. On lap 4 Stephen Mahannah had a small miscue that sent cars everywhere bringing out the first caution on the tri-oval.

On the restart we saw alot of the same as everyone was looking for a drafting partner with Mahannah and Douglas Sargent still in the pits with extensive work going on with their respective machines to get back into the race. The next caution came when Popoloski got on the apron and then came back up in front of traffic as Beverly Sargent T-boned him in turn 3.

Green flag racing resumed and we were green for a long while until Douglas Sargent and Daniel Gutierrez came up on the outside of Edgar Wilson and Beverly Sargent two wide in turn 1 when Beverly Sargent and Daniel Gutierrez got together causing Gutierrez to spin and flip twice. This sent Gutierrez to the pits for a few laps while the crew worked on the damage to that machine.

The last laps became a nail biter as Benjamin Brittain and Alex Montaferi were chasing down Brian Bennett and Jeremy Enochs who had gotten away from the pack using the two car tango. Coming off turn 4 Jeremy looked slightly to the outside of Bennett. When Brittain and Montaferi saw this they jumped to the outside as well. Enochs dropped back in line behind Bennett and it was a two wide drag race two by two to the finish line. Bennett and Enochs however were able to push ahead on the bottom line as Brian Bennett collects his first win in the Shootout Series.

Congratulations once again to Brian Bennett on a good win and good race at Daytona. Cant wait to see the action next week at Phoenix. See everyone there.
